Decathlon is a French sporting goods retailer. With over 2000 stores in 56 countries and regions, it is the largest sporting goods retailer in the world. Being a high performance international brand it was important to them that they were working with like minded companies that could deliver cutting edge solutions within very short time lines.
In keeping with their brand standard and ethos for sustainability and energy efficiency, we worked hand in hand with the electrical consultants to design a fully addressable DALI (Digital Addressable Lighting Interface) lighting control system. The design methodology used was to divide the store into the different lighting zones separating the different areas, as well as ambient, functional and security lighting.
The brief was to design to achieve the maximum energy efficiency by harvesting the natural lighting entering the store through roof lights as possible. We deployed a series of daylight sensors to continuously measure and monitor the store’s light levels in the store and automatically balance the artificial light and natural light to achieve the maximum saving.
This was taken a step further by setting up present ‘events’, that would be pre-selected at different times of the day for store, opening, closing, cleaning, and special events, even taking into account weekdays versus weekends and public holidays.Bespoke lighting control panels were designed, built and pre-wired by our system engineers for quick and easy installation on site.
Our plug and play panels mitigates much of the risk for the client and the electrical contractor on site.We collected the data with the system online vs offline, and the results were impressive with a significant 47% energy saving. This together with the added convenience of automated controls, prolonged life of the lighting and further reducing the maintenance, all giving the client an impressive ROI, and recovering their investment in as little as 2 years.
